Council approves Planning Commission nominee, rejects Board of Adjustment nominee

Last Tuesday, Council held a Confirmation Hearing to vote on one nominee for the Planning Commission and one for the Board of Adjustment.

Council voted to reappoint Planning Commission member Johnathon Davis to another term on the Planning Commission. His first full term will begin July 2025 and run through June 2029. He has served a partial term starting in December 2023 to now.

Council voted not to appoint nominee Anissa Martinez to the Board of Adjustment. Martinez was nominated to replace Racquel Carter, whose term expires on July 1st. Lexington’s Code of Ordinances requires that a vacancy be filled within 60 days.

  • Council has until August 30th to appoint another nominee.
  • If a nominee is not appointed — either because Council rejects a nominee or because the Mayor does not submit another nominee, as happened last year with a Planning Commission vacancy — the Planning Commission will select a person to serve on the Board of Adjustment.

Council’s summer recess starts July 4th. They will come back from recess for their first meeting on August 12th, leaving approximately two weeks for a nominee to be appointed after they return from recess.
