Lexington Nonprofit Coalition reviews nonprofit landscape amidst federal cuts
Several Lexington nonprofits are quoted in the presentation, sharing how federal funding cuts have affected their organizations.
The unusually strong winter storm put a lot of strain on Streets and Roads and other City divisions.
In the September 18th Council Meeting, Council will have a final vote to approve this year's winter warming homeless shelter at 1306 Versailles Road, the site of the city's electronics recycling center. The shelter will run from November 2025 to April 2026.
LFUCG has operated a temporary winter homelessness shelter for the past two years at a different location each year, and each with a slightly different model.
A new building will be built on the property for the shelter, as well as an entrance to the facility from Versailles Road. Originally the city had planned for the entrance to be along Nancy Hanks Road. However, area residents and Councilmembers asked for that entrance to be cancelled, as Nancy Hanks Road is a residential street with several apartments units.
The FY26 city budget allocated $2 million for the winter homeless shelter this year, which is in line with previous year's allocations for the shelter.
