Committee update from the Family Care Center

In Tuesday, January 28th's Social Services and Public Safety (SSPS) Committee, Council will hear an update on the Family Care Center from the Director of Family Services, Sheila Horton-Holt.

The Family Care Center was established to support teen mothers through education, career preparation, parenting support, health care, and childcare from resources provided by LFUCG, Fayette County Public Schools, Bluegrass Regional Comprehensive Care, the University of Kentucky, and other community partners.

The center provides four core programs:

  • The Early Child Care Program
    • Care and education for children six weeks to five years old.
  • The Family Service Coordination Program
    • Provides intensive case management to families working toward independence and stability.
  • The Health Access Nurturing Developing Services (HANDS) Program
    • Home visitations to new and expecting parents that help to address their questions and concerns.
  • The Parent Education Program
    • Provides high school education and parent support services to young parents to help them reach parenting and educational goals.
